This late 19th century Nuu-chah-nulth pole was sold out of the curio department of the Hudson Bay Fur Co. (HBC) in Seattle, WA. The figures are a humanoid creature (perhaps an anthropomorphic frog) over an inverted supernatural frog (note the winglike designs behind the arms and legs). This pole is beautifully painted in pigments that have mellowed with patina over time. Poles from the HBC in Seattle are relatively rare, and this pole is an excellent example with a period stamp from the HBC on the back. 19"
