Within these broader categories there are a number of transitional examples and experimental hooks, and that appears to be the case here. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis bentwood halibut hook is more gracile and delicate than other u-shaped hooks and appears to be an Indigenously made version of a contemporary circle hook. The wood for the hook is carved very thin and tapered toward the tip, which has been steamed, bent, and bound into a full loop. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere is a metal barb where the two ends of the hook meet, which is wrapped in a Native-made, twisted fiber rope (that appears to be spruce root). The hook comes with several feet of the Native made fiber rope.
