Walrus ivory carving a bird (ptarmigan) featuring a realistically carved bird with the head turned at a 90 degree angle to its right side. Various feathers are individually carved and textured, the beak and eyes are painted black and there is a red line behind each eye. Carved by Ronald Apangalook or Qaygehutkaq ("Put on Top".); Yupik Eskimo. Inscribed "Qay" on bottom of the bird's left foot.
