The Fisher family originated in Hanover, Germany, and moved to Quincy about 1855. By 1880 the Excelsior Stove and Manufacturing Co. in Quincy produced beautiful nickel-plated coal-wood ranges that were not only functional for cooking a meal but also warmed the home. Dealers proudly used trade cards advertising both their business as well as their stock of stoves.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDuring the Civil War, Excelsior Manufacturing, like many other companies, shifted its focus to wartime production.
