Pima olla with man figures and effigies, crosses and whirling logs.After an olla was filled to the brim with wild grass seeds such as chia or amaranth, or domestic plant products like corn or beans, a basketry lid or cover was put on top to protect the food inside. Some experts believe the use of human or animal figures on baskets began around 1875.
