Reserve Ladle

Round handled ladle with round bowl. The bowl has been compressed on the handle axis into an oval shape and exhibits right-handed user wear on the rim. Modeled? And scrape construction; white core, no carbon streak (near rim). Temper includes medium gray, temper bearing crushed sherd, and lesser amounts of fine to medium sand. Decoration is black mineral paint applied over a white slip and is confined to the bowl interior and on the handle; a portion of the bowl paint has oxidized red; some polishing. The bowl design field is quartered by 5-7mm lines; each panel consists of two solid triangles, or one solid and oen hollow triangle, and two hatched opposing elements; hatchure lines are 1.5mm. A circular area on the bottom of the bowl is left unpainted. Found at the Lawson's Well Ruin, Spring, 2000. The ruin is located 50km north of St. Johns, Arizona. Bowl glued in two pieces, outer half of handle restored.
