Adirondack painting of mixed media painted, molded portrait of Chief Wolf Robe (Ho'nehevotoomahe). Paper mache with pinecone frame. Came from an Adirondack lodge in Maine.
Chief Wolf Robe (Ho'nehevotoomahe) was a Southern Cheyenne Chief and holder of the Benjamin Harrison Peace Medal. During the late 1870s he was forced to leave the open plains and relocate his tribe on to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian Reservation in Indian Territory. Here he is wearing a round silver Benjamin Harrison Peace Medal, which he received from the Federal Government in 1890 for assisting the Cherokee Commission in negotiations for disposal of land. The Gerhard Sisters photographed him during the Louisiana Purchsae Exposition in St. Louis, MO in 1904. 27 3/4" x 18"W Frame 41"H x 30"W
