Blackfeet beaded gauntlets. Large gauntlet gloves from the Blackfeet Native American Indians of Northern Montana at the Browning Indian Reservation dating to the late 19th Century to early 20th Century. This is one of the best fully beaded sets we have offered for sale showing Indian tanned hide construction with large gauntlet cuffs being completely covered in period correct glass trade seed beads in an outstanding whimsical floral pattern. The beadwork is in all period correct glass trade seed and petit seed cen beads showing a greasy light blue or greasy sky padre blue background with whimsical floral pattern in greasy yellow, cobalt, semi-transparent amber, semi-transparent yellow, semi-transparent medium green, semi-transparent Cheyenne pink, faceted metal, and semi-transparent lilac purple with a floral medallion in similar whimsical pattern with fine tight petit beads in colors of semi-transparent medium green, greasy yellow, cobalt, semi-transparent red, and semi-transparent lilac purple. The beadwork is trade thread sewn. The gloves have a floral calico trade clothe inside lining and the back sides of the Indian tanned hide shows an embroidered sewn pattern. The outside edges of the long, large gauntlet cuffs is lined with Indian tanned hide hand cut fringes. The beadwork is very finely done with tight pattern and truly presents as more of a fine work of art than anything. Provenance: From the Blackfeet Browning Reservation in Montana; From a large Cowboy and Antique collection in Butte, Montana where the piece was found to be an 1800’s set from the Montana Blackfeet and valued over $5,000. Each gauntlet glove measures 17.5”L by 11”W with fringes. Blackfeet tribe can also be referred to as the Blackfoot, Pikuni, or Aamsskaapipikani and are a tribe of the Siksikaitsitapi people primirily beloging to the Piegan Blackfeet (Ampskapi Piikani) of the Blackfoot with the Reservation being located at Browning, Montana east of Glacier National Park at the Alberta, Canada border.
