This quirt was custom made for Tom Heard. Tom served in the Texas Rangers Company D at Falfurrias during the 1920s and 30s. There were border troubles with bandits during that time. Tom Heard died May 28, 1934. This quirt was made by a Spanish man in Slade Saddle Shop, Texas. They made several for Texas Rangers. Slade Saddle Shop was in business 1900 - 2005. Raw hide braided on brass handle. Typical for the Rangers.
